It is indeed possible for a student to achieve 90% and above marks in the CBSE Class 10th board examinations with appropriate planning and preparation. However, it is certainly true that while focusing on all other subjects, one needs to give additional importance to the subjects of Mathematics and Science. Here lies the doubt in the mind of many students as to which one is preferred.
Here is a brief comparison of both Math and Science in CBSE Class 10.
Both Science and Math carry 80 marks in the theory exam. However, their chapter distribution differs.
| CBSE Class 10 Maths | CBSE Class 10 Science |
| Number Systems | Chemical Reactions and Equations |
| Algebra | Acids, Bases, and Salts |
| Coordinate Geometry | Life Processes |
| Geometry | Electricity |
| Trigonometry | Magnetic Effects of Electric Current |
| Mensuration | Light |
| Statistics & Probability | Heredity, Environment, and Other Biology Chapters |
In Maths, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry contribute a major share of marks. In Science, Physics chapters like Electricity and Light, along with Biology topics such as Life Processes, usually carry higher weightage.
For Maths, students should focus on some specific chapters listed below that help score higher with relatively less effort:
These chapters involve straightforward concepts and repeated question patterns.
Focusing on these chapters allows students to score well easily:
Clearing concepts on these topics is the key, but it requires consistent revision rather than lengthy calculations.

Low-hanging fruit: If you are short on time, prioritize these chapters before moving to more challenging topics like Trigonometry or Electricity. However, Trigonometry is also a scoring part that can help students get a smart score.
Different chapters demand different preparation times.

| Subject | Average Time per Chapter |
| Maths | 6–10 hours |
| Science | 5–8 hours |
For students aiming for 90%+, an effective weekly split is:
Math generally requires more problem-solving practice and clear concepts. On the other hand, Science needs regular revision and concept retention.
The paper typically includes:
Success depends on accuracy and showing every calculation step.

The Science paper includes the following:
Overall, Maths is often more predictable because formulas and methods remain consistent. However, Science demands conceptual clarity.
Presentation plays an important role in maximizing marks in both subjects.
A balanced weekly routine can significantly improve your performance.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Sunday
You can also alternate between subjects to avoid boredom and improve long-term retention.
Organized guidance makes the preparation more convenient, whether it is a board examination or any other competitive one. Infinity Learn comes in this regard. They offers:
All of the above tools help students to track their progress and improve systematically in areas of concern.
With strategic preparation, both science and math are scoring subjects. Science instills conceptual understanding and effective revision, whereas math appreciates precision and consistency.
Allocate your study hours in accordance with your strengths and weaknesses rather than giving preference to either of them. For the identification of weak areas, focus on the high-weighted chapters and do regular practice and mock tests. So, it is absolutely feasible to achieve 90%+ marks in CBSE Class 10.

Keep studying regularly, following a standard routine. Complete the NCERT book thoroughly, try solving previous year questions, and also take mock tests. Doing these things on a regular basis is the secret to scoring 90%+.
Mathematics is an easy subject for students who like solving problems and finding solutions. On the other hand, Science is scoring for those students who have a strong command over the subject.
One should study Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics and Probability, and Coordinate Geometry properly, as these topics play an important role in improving your total marks.
Those students who want to secure a score of above 90%, they should study at least 4–6 hours daily.
Alternate Mathematics and Science lessons throughout the week, use weekends for solving mock tests and revising lessons, and devote more time to weak chapters.
