Detailed Solution

A. O. Hume, a retired British official, established the Indian National Congress.
Since 1880, educated Indians have sensed the need for an all-India organisation. So in December 1885, 72 representatives throughout the nation gathered in Bombay to form the Indian National Congress. Early leaders from Bombay and Calcutta included Dadabhai Naoroji, Pherozeshah Mehta, Badruddin Tyabji, W.C. Bonnerji, Surendranath Banerji, Romesh Chandra Dutt, and S. Subramania Iyer. Naoroji led the younger nationalists. However, A.O. Hume, a former British official, contributed to the interaction of Indians from the various districts. He established the Indian National Party, a pioneer party in the Indian struggle for independence.
