Ghiyasuddin Balban adopted the policy of Blood and Iron.
The policy of Blood and Iron employed by Balban during his reign meant being merciless and ruthless towards the enemies of the Delhi Sultanate and the Sultan. Use of swords and other means of punishment and harshness were adopted in order to implement this policy. With this policy in use, Balban was able to suppress various internal revolts and protect the Sultanate from external attacks as well.
