The Jati Panchayat was an assembly of elders that oversaw how the jati's members behaved. They had their own set of laws and rules. The individual castes are maintained in the Jati Panchayat, a tiny entity within the village panchayat. Every village has a Jati Panchayat responsible for overseeing the rights and obligations of the various castes. In Northern India, they generally take responsibility for maintaining caste harmony. There are certain guidelines and rules for each jati panchayat. In Indian society, the group comes first, in contrast to our society, which places such a high value on the individual personality. The second most important loyalty source for a person is their family or caste. Caste is still a consideration when choosing a spouse.
