Detailed Solution

December and January are the coldest months in Northern India. The Cold weather season in Northern India begins in mid-November and remains till February. December and January are the coldest months of winter. The peninsular region of India does not have a  well-defined cold season due to less interference from the sea. Cold weather atmospheric conditions in the northern plains are characterised by the influx of cyclonic disturbances from the west and northwest. This causes winter rain over the plains and snowfall on the higher slopes of the Himalayas. These rainfalls are highly important for rabi crops.
