Mortars and pestles were used to grind grain and other plant produce during the New Stone age. With the onset of the New Stone Age, humans started growing crops on their own & once they started their crops, the consumption of raw food and animals began declining. Later, they started making tools using stones to grind the spices or bring flavour to food. The earliest usage or existence of mortars and pestles could be found in this same period. These tools were made by taking a piece of stone and rubbing it against a sharp tool till it shone.
