Detailed Solution

Nij and Ryoti were the two main systems of indigo cultivation.
The two main systems of indigo cultivation were: Under this cultivation system, the planters produced indigo from the land directly under their control. Sometimes they bought land from zamindars or rented it from them. To produce indigo on that land, they directly employed hired labourers.
Under the Ryoti system, planters pressurised the ryots to sign the contract. They gave them cash advances after signing the contract at low-interest rates to produce indigo. The ryots had to cultivate indigo on their holdings of at least 25 per cent with the loan.
