Detailed Solution

Ireland and the UK were united in 1801.
The Irish experienced a similar fate as the Scots. With a parliamentary majority, the English were able to repress other ethnic groups. Catholics and Protestants in Ireland were bitterly opposed to one another. The English assisted the Irish Protestants in establishing their rule over a predominantly Catholic nation. Catholic rebels against British hegemony were put down. Ireland was forcibly absorbed into the United Kingdom in 1801 following a failed uprising. As the English country gained strength and influence, it tried to stifle Ireland's unique culture and compelled the people to speak English. Both the Union Jack and the English language were vigorously pushed.
