In the protests against the Simon commission, all parties took part, including the Congress and the Muslim League. Viceroy Lord Irwin attempted to win them over by announcing a Round Table Conference to consider a future constitution and a hazy offer of India's "dominion status" in the future. The Congress leaders weren't satisfied with this. Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose led the radicals in Congress as they became more outspoken.
