Detailed Solution

Elements are pure substances made up of only a single type of atom, and
compounds are substances formed by two or more different types of elements.
An element is a pure substance that cannot be further broken into simpler substances. Sodium, tin, silicon, and silver are elements. Two or more elements combine in a fixed proportion to form a compound. Calcium carbonate, methane, carbon dioxide and soap are compounds. Elements consist of only one type of atom, and we can’t divide elements into two or more simple substances. Only 118 elements are known to humankind. Compounds always have more than one type of atom, so they can be divided into elements by chemical reaction.
