Detailed Solution

Banjaras are to be found in several states of India, including Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
A famous group of pastoralists whose name more or less everyone knows is the Banjaras. They could be found in the villages of several modern-day states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. They lived in settlements called tandas. Banjara is derived from two words - 'Vanaja' meaning to trade and 'Jara' meaning to travel. Hence the word Banjara denotes travelling traders. As their name suggests, they travelled long distances trading ploughs, cattle, and other goods for grain and fodder in exchange across villages. Their trading activity was accompanied by pastoralism, searching for pasture land for their cattle while travelling.
