Detailed Solution

Inscriptions are written records engraved on caves' stones, pillars, or walls.
Indian inscriptions cut into the metal, engraved into stone, or other durable materials from the third century B.C.E., are significant historical sources. The great majority are recorded on copper plates, temple walls made of stone, or stone monuments in South India. The inscriptions provide confirmation for material from other sources, identify the dates and locations of significant events, track intricate royal genealogy, and shed light on early Indian political organisation, legal systems, religious activities and India's written language development and usage. For example, the Edicts of Ashoka, a group of 33 inscriptions discovered in the Indian subcontinent and the first concrete proof of Buddhism.
