Detailed Solution

Naval Kishore Press at Lucknow and the Shri Venkateshwar Press in Bombay published numerous religion texts in vernaculars. As you are aware, religious debates have raged since the early nineteenth century. Not only did printed tracts and newspapers propagate new ideas, but they also influenced the substance of the debate. Now, everyone can participate in these public discussions and express their ideas. Cheap lithographic editions inundated north Indian markets by the mid-nineteenth century. Beginning in the 1880s, the Naval Kishore Press in Lucknow and the Shri Venkateshwar Press in Bombay published many pieces of religious literature in vernacular languages. These could be read readily by the faithful at any time and place because they were printed and portable. Vast crowds of uneducataed men and women might also read them aloud.
