Dietrich Brandis became the first Inspector General of Forests in India. The British needed forests to build ships and railways for better transportation and trade in the empire. The British understood the need to save forests from getting used by local people and the reckless felling of trees by traders. Dietrich Brandis, a German expert, was invited for advice. He was also known as the Father of Tropical forestry. The British government made him the first Inspector General of Forests in India. Brandis emphasised introducing a proper system to manage the forests. He also wants people to get trained in the science of conservation.
