A movement for the restoration of democracy started in Nepal in 2006 after an absolute monarchy was established in the country by its newly made King Gyanendra. He abolished the government elected democratically in the country and dissolved the Parliament. SPA, i.e., the Seven Party Alliance, was set up, and strikes and protests were led throughout the country. Finally, when all was resolved, and democracy could again be set up in the country, G. P. Koirala was chosen to be the Prime Minister of Nepal. The SPA agreed with the Maoists to have a new Constituent Assembly.
