Detailed Solution

Vijayalaya belonged to the ancient chiefly family of Cholas from Uraiyur. He created the town of Thanjavur and a temple dedicated to Nishumbhasudini. Vijayalaya's successors expanded the kingdom's borders through conquest, increasing its size and power. The Pallava and Pandyan regions to the south and north were integrated into this kingdom. When Rajaraja I became king in 985, he expanded control over most of these territories and was regarded as the most powerful Chola emperor. He also changed the way the empire was run. Rajendra I, the son of Rajaraja, carried on his father's policies and even launched raids against the Ganga valley, Sri Lanka, and nations in Southeast Asia while building a navy to support these operations.
