Detailed Solution

Rinderpest broke out in Africa in the 1890s and impacted its local economy badly. In the late 1880s, a fast-spreading disease of cattle plague or rinderpest arrived in Africa, terribly affecting people's livelihoods and the local economy. Rinderpest killed around 90 per cent of the cattle. The loss of the cattle destroyed the African livelihoods. For centuries, land and livestock were the main sustainment of the African people, who rarely worked for a wage. But then, the European colonists monopolised whatever scarce cattle resources remained and thus could fully force Africans into the labour markets. This control over scarce resources enabled the Europeans to conquer and subdue Africa.
