When an ebonite rod is rubbed with fur, fur loses electrons and ebonite gains electrons. Fur, after losing electrons, becomes positively charged and rod, after gaining electrons, becomes negatively charged. Hence, a positive charge is acquired by fur when it is rubbed over fur, and the charge acquired by the ebonite rod when rubbed with fur is negative.
