Tamil Nadu experiences less rainfall because it is on the leeward side of the southwest monsoon winds. Mid-September marks the beginning of the monsoon's retreat, while mid-October marks the arrival of the north-east monsoon. Due to its location on these winds' windward side, Tamil Nadu experiences greater wintertime precipitation.
