Detailed Solution

Richard Arkwright created the cotton mill. The new symbol of the industrial era was cotton. Its production increased significantly in the late nineteenth century. British merchants brought 2.5 million pounds of raw cotton in 1760 to sustain their domestic cotton industry. By 1787, this import had grown to 22 million pounds. This increase was due to many production process changes. Through some inventions in the eighteenth century, the effectiveness of each stage of the production process was increased (carding, twisting, spinning, and rolling). They enabled the production of tougher threads and yarn and raised worker productivity, enabling each worker to create more.
