Johann Gutenberg developed the first known printing press in the 1430s. The printing press is an innovation that prints text or images onto paper or cloth, and the mechanism can produce them on a mass scale. Johann Gutenberg started the first known printing press in the 1430s in Strasbourg, Germany. The model of the olive press influenced his idea of the printing press. First, he created the 26 letters of the Roman alphabet in metal, and it was moved around in such a way as to compose different words in the text. Then, the paper was pushed against the movable letters inked, and the text and images were transferred onto the paper from the movable metals. This printing technology lasted for the next 300 years.
