Johann Gutenberg developed the first printing press in Germany. The printing press technology was a landmark technology. It sparked off the renaissance and reformation movements in Europe. Even before the printing press was introduced in Europe, traces of printing technology by hand were invented in China. Though the first printed book or script was the "Bible", through the massive printing of the Bible, people began to question the hierarchical and supreme orders of the priestly classes and their exploitations of the people. The first printing press was developed by Johann Gutenberg in Strasbourg, Germany, in the 1430s.
