Detailed Solution

Latitudinal extent affects India’s climate.
Latitude decides the amount of sunlight received by a region. The temperature of a place decreases on moving north and south from the Equator. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the country’s midway dividing it into two different climatic zones. The southern half of India lies in the tropical zone and has a tropical climate, while the northern half experiences a subtropical climate. India extends between 8° 4’ N and 37° 6’ N latitudes, while the Tropic of cancer is 23° 30’ latitude. The heat received also varies with latitude, decreasing northwards from the Equator. The tropical regions receive more heat than the northern subtropical regions.
