Detailed Solution

Intensive subsistence farming is practised in areas of high population pressure on land. It is labour-intensive farming in which large doses of biochemical inputs and irrigation are employed to increase output. Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and other states in India practise this type of farming. Even though the 'right of inheritance' has made land-holding size uneconomical, farmers continue to extract the greatest yield from the limited land in the absence of alternative sources of sustenance. As a result, agricultural land is under tremendous strain.
