Detailed Solution

Mongol attacks forced the two rulers, Allauddin khilji and Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq, to mobilize a large standing army in Delhi.
Attacks by the Mongols against the Delhi Sultanate increased during Alauddin Khalji and in the early rule of Muhammad Tughluq. This required the sultans to build up a sizable standing army in Delhi, which was a significant administrative burden. In 1219, the Mongols conquered Transoxiana, Iran's northeast region. They soon launched an assault against the Delhi Sultanate. Attacks on the Delhi Sultanate increased under Alauddin Khalji and in the early years of Muhammad Tughluq's rule.
