Detailed Solution

In 1919, Gandhiji demanded Satyagraha in opposition to the Rowlatt Act. The Act reduced fundamental freedoms like the right to free speech while extending police authority. April 6, 1919, was set aside by Gandhiji and the Indian people as a day of nonviolent protest against this Act. Satyagraha Sabhas were also set up to launch the movement. In April 1919, there were a lot of demonstrations and hartals across the country, and the authorities violently put an end to them. This repression included the horrors committed in Jallianwala Bagh, which General Dyer committed in Amritsar on Baisakhi (13 April). Participants in the Rowlatt Satyagraha ensured that Muslims and Hindus joined forces to oppose British rule. Mahatma Gandhi believed that India was a country where all its citizens belonged.
