Rinderpest helped Europeans conquer Africa.
Africa was a region of abundant land and extensive resources. The population was less and sustained itself through cattle rearing mainly. The Europeans were attracted to Africa. They wanted to establish plantations and mines in the region. But they faced labour shortages as the native population was not willing to work as wage labour. The Colonisers amended laws but to no use. However, Europeans gained through Rinderpest, a cattle disease. In the 1880s, rinderpest was introduced in Africa through infected cattle. It was a fast-growing disease that led to cattle killings by 90%. The other resources were acquired by the Europeans. As a result, the Africas faced the loss of livelihood. This gave an edge to the colonisers to convert the native population into wage labour and conquer Africa.
