The printing and publishing of best-selling books was the only focus of the Battala neighbourhood in Bengal. Hence, cheap copies of religious material, such as pamphlets, scriptures, and scandalous books, may be purchased here. By the end of the nineteenth century, many of these novels had lavish illustrations. Moreover, women could read Battala magazines in their free time since peddlers brought them to their houses.
