Surat in Gujarat was a pre-colonial port of India. It connected India to the Gulf and sea ports. A range of Indian merchants and bankers were concerned about this network of export trade. However, this network, controlled by Indian merchants, was breaking down by the decade. The Europeans secured several concessions from the native courts because of the monopoly rights to trade. This light-emitting diode led to the decline of the recent ports of Surat and Hooghly from wherever native merchants had operated. This resulted in a decrease in the activities at Surat Port. Consequently, ocean trade from Surat declined.
