The Chauri Chaura incident was the reason to call off the Non-Cooperation movement by Gandhiji. The Non-Cooperation movement led by Gandhi demanded non-violent, peaceful protest against the British Raj. But the spread of the Non-Cooperation movement across nations and the assimilation of different entities led to change in its course. One such event was in Chauri Chaura, a village in Gorakhpur, where a peaceful demonstration turned violent, and the protestors set fire to the police station. Hearing of the event, Gandhi called for a halt to the Non-Cooperation movement.
