Detailed Solution

The Union list includes subjects of national importance such as the country's defence, foreign affairs, banking communications and currency. The Indian Constitution divides the nation's legislative authority between the centre and the states into three equal parts. Three lists listed in the Seventh Schedule of the Indian Constitution are used to implement this distribution. Union list, State list, and Concurrent list are these lists. The Indian Constitution's Article 246(1) states that the Parliament has the only authority to pass laws about the topics included in List 1, The Union List. List 1's items are of national importance. Hence the union alone has the authority to pass laws on them.
