Detailed Solution

Britain introduced 'Corn Laws' to restrict the import of corn in 1815. It was a trade restriction imposed on imported foods and corn in Britain between 1815 and 1846. It was done so to favour the domestic producers. During the late eighteenth century, Britain's population grew, leading to increasing demand for food grains. The demand for agricultural products increased as cities and industries thrived, driving up food grain prices. The government also imposed restrictions on corn imports in response to pressure from landed interests. But the industrialists and city inhabitants were fed up with the excessive food prices due to the import restrictions. So finally, the Corn Laws were repealed in 1846.
