After his failed expedition to Deogiri, Muhammad Bin Tughlaq produced token currency in 1330. It consisted of brass and copper coins with a value equal to gold and silver coins. Unfortunately, coins lost value due to low-quality metals used in their making. Finally, they ended up being as useless as shells.
