Detailed Solution

Civil war is a conflict between two or more communities or between the civilians and government of the same country. The objective of one side is generally to take control of the country or a region or gain independence for a region, and even sometimes to change government policies. It is a high-intensity conflict. It often involves regular armed forces, which are organised and large-scale. Primarily, they result in large numbers of casualties. In addition, civil war leads to an economic drain. For example,  despite being democratically elected, the Sinhala government was adopting majoritarian measures to establish supremacy and created policies that favoured the Sinhalas in government jobs and university positions. Then an intermittent insurgency was started by LTTE against the Sri Lankan government on 23 July 1983, which took the shape of a civil war.
