Bahujan Samaj Party is a National Political Party in India formed in 1984 by the late Kanshi Ram.
Kanshi Ram, a Dalit who worked in the civil service, formed the BSP. After reading Ambedkar's teachings and personally seeing caste disparities, he became involved in pro-Dalit action in the 1960s. In Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, Kanshi Ram built a strong foundation. The Bahujan Samaj Party was founded in April 1984. It had been established to represent the Bahujan Samaj, which includes scheduled castes, tribes and other backward communities. Its most particular stance is one of opposition to India's caste disparities. The BSP's administration was later notorious for corruption, self-aggrandisement, and a slew of financial scandals, all of which contributed to the party's defeat in the 2012 state assembly elections.
