Federalism is a system of government in which the power is divided between a central authority and various constituent units of the country. A federation has two or more levels of government. The first level is usually the entire country's government, which is in charge of a few issues of national importance. The others are provincial or state governments that handle much of the day-to-day administration of their state. Both levels of government exercise authority independently of one another.
