Detailed Solution

Rinderpest is also referred to as cattle plague. It is an extremely contagious and devastating disease found in cattle. It is caused by a virus associated with human measles, canine distemper, etcetera. It arrived in Africa in the late 1890s and was carried by infected cattle imported from British Asia to serve as food to the Italian soldiers invading Eritrea in East Africa. After it entered Africa in the east, Rinderpest spread extremely fast and reached Africa’s Atlantic coast in 1892. Many cattle died due to this disease, and the loss of cattle destroyed African livelihoods.
