Manimekalai is an epic that is based on the love story of prince Udayan and Manimekalai, the daughter of Madhavi. One of the only three of Tamil literature's Five Great Epics to have endured to the present day is The Manimekalai. It is a Tamil epic that was authored in the sixth century by Kulavanikan Seethalai Sataar. It includes some of the same characters and their offspring as the "love story" in the first Tamil epic Silappadikaram. The epic contains 30 cantos and 4,861 lines in the akaval metre. The Manimekalai and its twin-epic Silappadikaram are both recognised as important works of literature that shed light on Tamil regions' (India and Sri Lanka's) way of life, culture, and civilisation in the first centuries of the Common Era.
