Digboi is the oil town of Assam, where the first well was drilled in Asia. The first refinery began operations here in 1901. Digboi has the oldest operating well. Oil was accidentally discovered in 1867 when a railroad line was laid in the Digboi district. Found in the dense jungle of the Tinsukia district. Digboi began mining oil in 1889, and a refinery was built in 1901. Digboi proudly boasts two unique features: a 100-year-old conserved oil field and the world's oldest operating oil refinery. The Digboi refinery, which went into operation on December 11, 1901, is India's oldest refinery and one of the oldest refineries in the world. Digboi had a well-developed infrastructure and many city-specific bungalows. There is an 18-hole golf course as part of the Dig Boy Club. It features guest houses and tourist apartments designed according to the Italian architectural plan to promote tourism in Upper Assam.
