Satyagraha is Gandhi's method of movement and protest based on truth and non-violence. Satyagraha emphasised the value of truth and the need for it to be sought. It meant that if the purpose and struggle were for justice, physical violence would not be necessary to combat the oppressor. A Satyagrahi could win the argument without resorting to violence or being confrontational. It is possible to achieve this by appealing to the oppressor's conscience. Following his arrival, Mahatma Gandhi successfully carried out satyagraha campaigns across India, e.g. in Champaran, Kheda, etc.
