Detailed Solution

Hampi is known for its monuments. It is located in the Krishna-Tungabhadra basin, which served as the basis for the Vijayanagara Empire, founded in 1336. The impressive ruins of Hampi depict the well-fortified city. These walls were squeezed together by interlocking and were built without using mortar or cementing agents. The architecture of Hampi was unusual. The buildings of the royal complex featured spectacular arches, domes, and pillared halls with sculpture niches. They also had beautiful orchards and pleasure gardens with sculptural themes like lotuses and corbels. Hampi was a hive of commercial and cultural activity in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Hampi's markets attracted Muslims, Chettis, and European traders like the Portuguese.
