Detailed Solution

Mahar is one of the communities that were treated as untouchables in the Bombay Presidency.
B.R. Ambedkar, who pioneered the anti-caste movement, belonged to the Mahar caste and faced tremendous discrimination as they belonged to the lower rung of society. People from the lower castes in India are denied many privileges and basic facilities due to their ascription to a particular caste. For example, they were not allowed to eat with the upper castes or sit with them, and even their shadows were considered inauspicious. B.R. Ambedkar fought against his discrimination by being meted out to the lower castes and was considered a revolutionary figure in the country.
