The harbinger-poet Valmiki is revered in Sanskrit literature. Based on the attribution in the book itself, he is credited with writing the epic Ramayana, which dates to the 5th century BCE and the 1st century BCE. As the first poet and the creator of the first epic poem, the Ramayana, he is honoured as "Adi Kavi."
