The national rural employment guarantee act NREGA was a government scheme that was launched in the year 2005. This scheme aimed to generate employment and provide jobs, mainly in rural areas. It was proposed in the parliament by Narasimha Rao in 2001 but was officially accepted and implemented by parliament in 2006 and was first implemented in 200 districts of the country.
