Detailed Solution

Cotton is the fiber grown on black soil.
Cotton grows well in soil that can hold water and has good drainage (the soil absorbs water). Excessive moisture harms the cotton plant. Since black soil has a high amount of clay, it has a high water holding capacity that makes it suitable for the growth of cotton. Among the in situ soils of India, the black soils are mostly found in the covered areas. Black soils are also called regur soils. But they are popularly called “black cotton soils,” Black soils are derivatives of trap lava. They are mostly found in the interior of  Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka on the Malwa plateau. Due to their high clay content, black soils develop wide cracks in their texture during the dry season, but their iron-rich granular structure makes them resistant to wind and water erosion.
