Digital India is the flagship initiative of the Government of India to transform India into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge economy.
The Digital India program, launched in 2015, is an initiative by the Government of India to digitise India. It helps turn the country into a digitally empowered economy. The program aims to improve connectivity in rural areas by introducing high-speed internet networks. The Ministry of Electronics and Technology and Ministry of Finance collectively manage the initiative, which acts as the parent of several other schemes like Startup India, Sagarmala, Bharatmala, industrial corridors, Make in India, and BharatNet. The digital locker, e-shopping, e-health, and other digital services got introduced under the Digital India scheme. Most of India's population has acquired Aadhaar, the digital biometric identity card.
