Digital India is the flagship initiative of the Government of India to transform India into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge economy.
Through the Digital India programme launched in 2015, the Indian government has been attempting to digitise India. It helps turn the country into a digitally empowered economy. The programme aims to expand connections in rural areas by setting up high-speed internet networks. The Ministry of Electronics and Technology and the Ministry of Finance jointly oversee the project, which acts as the umbrella organisation for several other initiatives, including Startup India, Sagarmala, Bharatmala, industrial corridors, Make in India, and BharatNet. The introduction of the digital locker, e-shopping, e-health and other digital services was made possible by the Digital India project. The majority of Indians have gotten the Aadhaar digital biometric identity card.
