Detailed Solution

The Godavari is the largest Peninsular River.
Also known as the Dakshin Ganga, the Godavari river is the largest Peninsular river. Rising from the slopes of the Western ghats in the Nasik district of Maharashtra, it covers a length of about 1500 km, draining into the Bay of Bengal. It has the largest drainage basin among the other drainage basins of peninsular rivers. 50 percent of the basin area lies in the state of Maharashtra, and the remaining area covers Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. The major tributaries which join the Godavari are the Purna, the Wardha, the Pranhita, the Manjra, the Wainganga, and the Penganga.
