Mumbai Port is the largest port of India. Ninety-five per cent of India's trade is done through the seas, which constitutes 68% of the value. With a long coastline of about 7516.8 km, India has 12 major and about 200 minor and intermediate ports. Other significant ports include Kolkata Port, a tidal port and an inland riverine port. It has facilities for loading and unloading ships. Kolkata Port is a vast and rich hinterland of the Ganga-Brahmaputra basin. Visakhapatnam Port in Vizag is the deepest landlocked and coastal port in India. It is a well-protected port for exporting iron ore. Chennai Port is the oldest artificial port. It comes second in terms of cargo and volume of trade.
