The 73rd Constitutional Amendment brings local self-government to urban areas. It is also called municipal government. It comprises three types of local bodies according to the city's population. A Municipality or Nagar Palika is set up for small towns like gram panchayats. A municipal council, or Nagar Parishad, is set up for the small city.
Urban Administration must provide basic amenities like streetlights, garbage collection, water supply, keeping the market and streets clean, collecting house taxes and water taxes, etc.
